2005 - 2007
In the early years before the console era, the majority of first person shooters only existed on the PC.
That is exactly where the PDOG Clan first originated from and began it's journey into the world of online
gaming.
The earliest reminisce of the PDOG Clan was with the creation of a PC gaming server called 'Ain't No Hogan's
Hero' that originally housed such PC titles as Unreal Tournament, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and Medal of Honor. The
server was a huge success and brought in many players from all over the country. Running practically on a
24/7 basis, Ain't No Hogan's Hero became the place to be for weekly and nightly LAN parties.
Among some of the names who participated during this time was, Fizzdatt (AKA PDOG), Bildo82k2mny (AKA NoResponse),
and Hellbenderprime (AKA Hellbender) who at that time were very avid players of the PC gaming era. In fact it
didn't take long before they began playing even more great titles such as Doom, Quake Arena, and eventually
Call of Duty (the Original) & Call of Duty United Offensive.
Call of Duty was an extra special time for Bildo82k2mny and his father who would engage in battle with him every
night after dinner. The ritual of late night gaming with the pops, who always referred to playing as 'shooting up'
was a real treat to see a 70 year old man even schooling his son at times. Bill's father (AKA BigJohn) always looked
forward to a little 1 on 1 and would never let you hear the end of it if you were camping. The time they shared
together on their virtual battle ground is something that will be cherished forever.
It wasn't long after the passing of Bill's father that he closed the doors to the Ain't No Hogan's Hero server
forever. The memories of maps that now were left vacant with the ambient sounds of mortars and gunfire in the distance
were left abandoned, as the disassembly of the PC from which the server once thrived was slowly fading away. The
server at that time and the people who played on it made it what it was, and now it was time to take that next step
into a new style of gaming that would set us aside from all the rest.
2007 - 2009
In December of 2007, Bildo82k2mny was the new owner of a Playstation 3 console that introduced him for the first time
to online gaming outside of the PC world. It didn't take long for Fizzdatt to follow in his footsteps and take the
plunge as well. At the time the idea of starting a clan was always in question, especially from dealing with several of
them from back in the PC gaming days, but on a console, that would be a different story.
After a few weeks past and with the purchase of Call of Duty Modern Warfare, it was then when the once roughly idea about
starting a clan, really began to take hold. Bildo82k2mny worked closely at first with Fizzdatt and eventually
branched out to include the PDOG Clan's first members; Bill's nephew NoResponse22, PDOG Podcast DJ
Jmart575, and Senior Moderator Rebel001. Together they made up
what was the beginning of The PDOG Clan.
The new members brought many great ideas and suggestions for the clan which meant the PDOG Clan needed an online presence
that would help keep track of their progress and at the same time get the name PDOG out into the world. The first web based
site was launched on Myspace and included a loose list of members, early videos of matches, and information about the clan
and their monthly activities. For that time, utilizing a simple Myspace page was all the clan considered to be vital to
their existence. By this point the members on the PDOG Clan had been huge advocates of many online gaming forums which helped
in generating many advertising ads and banners to help draw in new recruits.
The help to spread the word did just that, and the clan was faced at adding even more information to an already cramped 1 page
spread. It was in March of 2008 that the website we all know today as the pdogclan.org was finally launched, and offered the
guys large amounts of space and even greater opportunities to finally expand their clan. Members Jmart575,
and Rebel001 were 2 members who played a major rolls in maintaining and providing pages upon
pages of helpful solutions to building a system that worked.
While the members of the PDOG Clan knew building the integrity of a good clan was important, it was maintaining the leisurely game
play and keeping members enjoying their membership that was finding to be the hardest job of them all. A system desperately
needed to be set in place that would help challenge a member. The guys knew that once a system like this existed the rest would
simply fall into place.
By late 2008 an area was created on the website that gave members a chance to log in to their own personal area that featured a
War Room, Roster, and Tips. The War Room much
like the one utilized today schooled members on particular maps and helpful guides to defeating their opponent. The Roster page
included a list of active players, and the Tips page offered member generated tips to playing safe and smart. This new
area was the start of a system that would change the way people eyed true grit clans like the PDOGs.
Over the months to follow the area grew much popularity among members and gained the interest of even outside parties that were interested
in finding out just what it was that enticed people to the clan in the first place. A working sample of the area which is still in place today
offers the public access to tour our members only area for a chance to see our system at work. Much of the success of the PDOG Clan rides
on our Members Only area, and TODAY accounts for over 90% of membership participation.
Present
For the most part all the kinks and trouble-shooting of building and maintaining a gaming clan is hopefully behind the PDOG Clan, but it didn't
come easy. Most of great personalities that once poured their heart and soul into making the clan what it is today have long since moved on, but
their accomplishments have not gone un-witnessed by the supportive members who make-up TODAY's PDOG Clan.
Everyone's hard work and commitment to our clan is a fine example of how one single member can set their course to success and achieve victory.
The time we’ve shared as players and friends on our virtual playground will always be remembered, shared, and honored by myself and those that
follow in your footsteps.
